Alain Prost won three world championships with McLaren during the 1980's during which time he had a competitive rivalry with Senna. He won his fourth championship with Williams.
In 1997 Prost bought the Ligier team from Flavio Briatore to create the Prost Grand Prix team. Despite engines from Peugeot and the arrival of John Barnard the team had limited success and folded prior to the 2002 season
