The 1958 season was the first season of the constructors championship and was a good year for British drivers and Vanwall who won the first constructors championship. Mike Hawthorn won the drivers championship by 1 point from Sterling Moss. It was another difficult year for the sport with 2 drivers being killed in races and and Mike Hawthorn being killed in a road accident after retiring at his peak. At the end of the season Vanwall withdrew from the championship.
