Frank Williams career

Frank Williams started his career as a driver and mechanic, but soon formed Frank Williams Racing Cars in 1966 which initially ran cars in Formula 2 and 3. His first moves into Formula One was using chassis bought from other people, but by 1972 they had built and entered their own car. Problems with funding meant Frank Williams sold a controlling interest to Woolf in 1976. In 1977 he started Williams Grand Prix Engineering with Patrick Head. During the 1980's and 1990's the Williams F1 team was very successful with 9 Constructors Championships and 7 Drivers Championships.
A car accident in 1986 has left him confined to a wheel chair. He received a CBE in 1987 and was knighted in 1999
