India hosted its first Formula One Grand Prix during the 2011 season on a new circuit (another designed by Herman Tilke) outside of Delhi. After three races that were run were dominated by Sebastian Vettel the race was dropped from the 2014 calendar.

Race winner: Sebastian Vettel Red Bull
The 2013 race was again won by Sebastian Vettel from pole position from Nico Rosberg in a Mercedes after Mark Webber retired with electrical problems when heading for second place. The teams used a mixture of tyre strategies after the soft tyre was expected to last only a couple of laps, though some drivers managed to get a lot more laps out of the tyres.
