1950 F1 Championship

The modern era of the Formula World Championship started on 13 May 1950 at Silverstone in England with 21 cars competing in the first of six championship races (exluding the Indianapolis 500) this season. The season was dominated by the three Alfa Romeo drivers of Giuseppe Farina, Juan Manuel Fangio and Luigi Fagioli. They were racing an updated version of the pre-war Tipo 158. Ferrari entered a car in the second race at Monaco and came second. Giuseppe Farina won the championship in the final race at Monza, after Juan Manuel Fangio retired from the race with both of them running the new Tipo 159.
