BMW Sauber team history

BMW bought up the Swiss based Sauber team in 2005, to enter the 2006 season as a full works team after its split from supplying engines to Williams at the end of 2005 season. They won their first Grand Prix when Kubica won the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix. Mid way through the 2009 season BMW announced they were quitting Formula 1 and sold the team back to Peter Sauber.

This season was not as successful as the previous season with the team having problems with the KERS system in the engine. In the middle of the season BMW announced that it was withdrawing from F1 and sold the team back to Peter Sauber.

Robert Kubic had a good season giving the team their only race victory in Canada. He also had 7 podium finishes and the teams only pole position in Bahrain.

This was a very good season for the team who scored points in every race with a best result of second by Nick Heidfeld in Canada. Consistent finishes in the top 6 by both drivers meant the team finished second in the constructors championship but a long way behind the dominate Ferrari's.
