The Abu Dhabi circuit at Yas Marina was a brand new purpose built circuit for 2009 and hosted Formula 1's first twilight race.

Race winner: Lando Norris McLaren
Lando Norris won the final race of the season from pole position giving McLaren the constructors championship. The two Ferrari's finished 2nd and 3rd ahead of the two Mercedes.

2023

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull
Max Verstappen won from pole position ahead of the Ferrari of CHarles Leclarc and the Nercedes of George Russell.

2022

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull
Max Verstappen took pole position and comfortably won the final race of the season with Charles Leclerc finishing ahead of Sergio Perez in the race and the drivers championship.

2021

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull
Max Verstappen took pole position end eventually won the race in F1's most controversial final laps. Hamilton was leading the race and was basically in control when Latifi crashed bringing out a safety car. With just a few laps left Verstappen pitted for fresh soft tyres. Race control allowed some lapped cars to unlap themselves and when Verstappen was behind Hamilton the safety car was called in with one lap to go. Verstappen on fresh tyres passed Hamilton through turn 5 and won the race much to the annoyance of Hamilton and Mercedes.

2020

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull
Max Verstappen won from pole position for his only win of the 2020 season comfortably finishing ahead of Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton.

2019

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton won from pole position from Max Verstappen in the Red Bull and Charles Leclerc in a Ferrari. Valtteri Bottas finished fourth after starting from the back of the grid after a penalty.

2018

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
With the championship already won, Lewis Hamilton won from pole position, whilst the excitement of the race was going on behind him.

2017

Race winner: Valtteri Bottas Mercedes Mercedes dominated the race with Valtteri Bottas winning just ahead of Lewis Hamilton, followed by the Ferrari's of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen. This was the final race for Felipe Massa.

2016

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes The race was won from pole position by Lewis Hamilton ahead of team mate Nico Rosberg in his final Grand Prix race. Sebastian Vettel was third in a Ferrari.

2015

Race winner: Nico Rosberg Mercedes
Nico Rosberg won from pole position in 2015 as he on the last 3 races of season, but Lewis Hamilton, who completed another 1-2 for Mercedes had already on the drivers championship. Sebastian Vettel had a problem in qualifying, but fought from the back of the grid to finish 4th in the race. Kimi Raikkonen continued his good second half of the season in a third place finish to give him fourth place in the drivers championship. There was lots of close racing and overtaking in the early laps of the race making it one of the more exciting races of the season.

2014

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton won the 2014 drivers championship with a win in the final race of the season. Mechanical problems meant that his nearest challenger, Nico Rosberg scored no points. The Williams cars of Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas finished 2nd and 3rd to give Williams third in the constructors championship behind Red Bull.

2013

Race winner: Sebastian Vettel Red Bull
Sebastian Vettel won in 2013 from team mate Mark Webber who started on pole position. Kimi Raikkonen start from the back of the grid after a technical infringement but retired on the first lap. His team mate Romain Grosjean in the other Lotus finished fourth and Force India had a good race with Paul DiResta 6th and Adrian Sutil 10th which moved the team well ahead of Sauber in the constructors championship.

2012

Race winner: Kimi Raikkonen Lotus F1
Kimi Raikkonen won in 2012, his first race after making his comeback into Formula 1 after Lewis Hamilton retired from the lead with mechanical failure. Sebastian Vettel finished third after starting from the pit lane after an infringement during qualifying, in a race that had two periods under the safety car and numerous incidents during an exciting race.

In 2011 Sebastian Vettel retired with puncture on the first lap allowing Lewis Hamilton to win an exciting race that benefited from using the DRS system to aid overtaking.

The 2010 race started with 4 drivers in with a real chance to win the drivers championship but Sebastian Vettel won the race to take the drivers championship.

In the first race in 2009 Red Bull finished first and second to complete a successful season for them and Sebastian Vettel.
