The Abu Dhabi circuit at Yas Marina was a brand new purpose built circuit for 2009 and hosted Formula 1's first twilight race. It is usually the final race of the F1 season.

Race winner: Max VerstappenRed Bull Max Verstappen took pole position end eventually won the race in F1's most controversial final laps. Hamilton was leading the race and was basically in control when Latifi crashed bringing out a safety car. With just a few laps left Verstappen pitted for fresh soft tyres. Race control allowed some lapped cars to unlap themselves and when Verstappen was behind Hamilton the safety car was called in with one lap to go. Verstappen on fresh tyres passed Hamilton through turn 5 and won the race much to the annoyance of Hamilton and Mercedes.

Race winner: Nico RosbergMercedes Nico Rosberg won from pole position in 2015 as he on the last 3 races of season, but Lewis Hamilton, who completed another 1-2 for Mercedes had already on the drivers championship. Sebastian Vettel had a problem in qualifying, but fought from the back of the grid to finish 4th in the race. Kimi Raikkonen continued his good second half of the season in a third place finish to give him fourth place in the drivers championship. There was lots of close racing and overtaking in the early laps of the race making it one of the more exciting races of the season.

Mechanical problems meant that his nearest challenger, Nico Rosberg scored no points. The Williams cars of Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas finished 2nd and 3rd to give Williams third in the constructors championship behind Red Bull.
2013
Race winner: Sebastian VettelRed Bull Sebastian Vettel won in 2013 from team mate Mark Webber who started on pole position. Kimi Raikkonen start from the back of the grid after a technical infringement but retired on the first lap. His team mate Romain Grosjean in the other Lotus finished fourth and Force India had a good race with Paul DiResta 6th and Adrian Sutil 10th which moved the team well ahead of Sauber in the constructors championship.
2012
Race winner: Kimi RaikkonenLotus F1 Kimi Raikkonen won in 2012, his first race after making his comeback into Formula 1 after Lewis Hamilton retired from the lead with mechanical failure. Sebastian Vettel finished third after starting from the pit lane after an infringement during qualifying, in a race that had two periods under the safety car and numerous incidents during an exciting race.
