Previous seasons

2025

Race winner: Oscar Piastri McLaren Max Verstappen took pole position but kept the lead in the first corner by going off track and was given a 5 second penalty. This enabled Oscar Piastri to take the lead at the pit stop and go on to win the race. Lando Norris crashed in qualifying , so started 10th but recovered to finish 4th. Williams continued to improve finishing 8th and 9th.

2024

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull Max Verstappen won comfortably from pole position ahead of team mate Sergio Perez and then Charles Leclerc in a Ferrari. Carlos Sainz was ill and was replaced by reserve driver Oliver Bearman who finished 7th in his first F1 race.

2023

Race winner: Sergio Perez Red Bull Sergio Perez for Red Bull took pole position and won the race after Max Verstappen had a mechanical failure in qualifying leaving him to come through the field but he could not catch Sergio Perez. Fernando Alonso was comfortable for third place but was initially given a penalty that was then retracted kept him third ahead of George Russell in a Mercedes. Ferrari were off the pace and McLaren had a difficult weekend.

2022

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull Sergio Perez for Red Bull took pole position ahead of the two Ferrari's with Lewis Hamilton in a Mercedes failing to get out of first qualifying and starting 15th. There was plenty of close racing with overtaking and re-overtaking particularly between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc as they fought for the lead. A crash and several retirements produced safety car episodes that closed up the field and enabled most drivers to finish a short final race stint on fresh tyres.

2021

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes Lewis Hamilton took pole position in the first Saudia Arabia Grand Prix and did go on to win a controversial race. There were two red flags and three safety car sessions with Hamilton and Verstappen fighting wheel to wheel on restarts leading to arguments as to who pushed who and then Hamilton clipping the back of Verstappen's car as Verstappen had been told to let Hamilton take back a place. It was enthralling with the two best drivers fighting for the championship and then going in to the final race level on points.
