Circuit of the Americas, USA circuit details

Formula 1 returned to the USA in 2012 at a purpose built track designed by Hermann Tilke near Austin in Texas and Lewis Hamilton won the first race for McLaren. The 2021 race was popular with the crowds, an attendance of over 400,000 during the weekend.

Race winner: Charles Leclerc Ferrari
Max Verstappen won the Sprint race from pole position. Lando Norris took pole for the race but slipped to fourth on the first lap. The Ferrari's were the quickest cars with Charles Leclerc winning ahead of Carlos Sainz. Max Verstappen finished third ahead of Lando Norris after Norris had a controversial penalty whilst overtaking Max Verstappen. George Russell crashed in qualifying and after starting from the pit lane recovered to finish 6th.

2023

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull
Max Verstappen won the Sprint race from pole position and he won the race after starting 6th on the grid with a controlled drive. Lewis Hamilton finished second on the road but was later disqualified for a technical infringement giving Lando Norris second place.

2022

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull
Max Verstappen won from Lewis Hamilton to give him a record equalling 13 win is a season. Carlos Sainz Jr stated on pole but retired on the first lap after a collision with George Russell. Fernando Alonso had a crash with Lance Stroll that sent Alonso airborne. Two safety cars closed up the field to give some good racing.

2021

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull
Max Verstappen won from Lewis Hamilton helped by an aggressive pit stop strategy from Red Bull that gave Max Verstappen track position that he held keeping Lewis Hamilton behind him as Hamilton chased him down in the last few laps. Sergio Perez was third in the second Red Bull but over 40 seconds behind Verstappen and Hamilton

Valtteri Bottas won from pole position ahead of team mate Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen in a Red Bull.

2018

Race winner: Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari
Kimi Raikkonen won his first Grand Prix in 5 years in a tight finish ahead of Max Verstappen and then Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton had the opportunity to win, but the Mercedes team delayed his second tyre stop which cost him time and track position. Sebastian Vettel had another difficult race following a spin after a coming together with Daniel Ricciardo.

2016

Lewis Hamilton won from pole position ahead of his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg and Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull.

2015

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
The preparation to the 2015 race was disrupted by torrential rain, with qualifying taking place on the Sunday morning. Rosberg took pole position, but Lewis Hamilton took the lead on the first lap. This was an exciting race thanks to a drying track that meant to move from inters to slick tyres was crucial and a safety car bunched up the pack making it more competitive. After a few difficult F1 races, the American public finally saw F1 racing racing at its best. The win gave Lewis Hamilton his third world championship.

2014

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton won the 2014 race from team mate Nico Rosberg and Daniel Ricciardo another consistent third place. Financial problems meant Marussia and Caterham were absent from the race.

2013

Race winner: Sebastian Vettel Red Bull
Sebastian Vettel won from pole position, his 8th consecutive win of the season. Romain Grosjean was second in the lotus ahead of Mark Webber in the second Red Bull.

2012

Lewis Hamilton won the first Grand Prix run in Austin, Sebastian Vettel in a Red Bull was second having started on pole position. Fernando was a distant third in a Ferrari.
