Adelaide Street Circuit circuit details

Adelaide hosted the Australian GP from 1985 through to 1995. This was challenging and fast for a temporary street circuit.

1995

Race winner: Damon Hill Williams
This was the final race of hte season and the final time the Australian GP was held in Adelaide before moving to Melbourne. In a race of attrition Damon Hill won from pole position finishing 2 laps ahead of the second place of Olivier Panis in a Ligier. Mark Blundell who started 10th and finished 4th was the only driver other than Damon Hill who started in the top 10 on the grid finished the race. This was the last race to use the red then green lights at the start. This was the final race for Mark Blundell and also for the Pacific team.

1994

Race winner: Nigel Mansell Williams
This was the final and controversial race of the season with th etwo titlw contenders crashing out. Michael Schumacher crashed in Damon Hill leading both to retire and giving Schumacher the drivers title. Schumacher claimed it was a racing inciddent but many other think it was deliberate. The race was won by Nigel Mansell who had started on pole position and was his final F1 race win. This was the final race of Team Lotus team and also the Larrousse team. This was the final F1 race for Christian Fittipaldi, Michele Alboreto and JJ Lehto

1993

Race winner: Ayrton Senna McLaren
Ayrton Senna won the race having taken pole position. This was his final (41st) race victory in F1. This was also the final race in F1 for Alain Prost, Riccardo Patrese and Derek Warwick. This was also the final race in which cars had various electronic driver aids that were banned from the 1994 season.

1992

Race winner: Gerhard Berger McLaren
Gerhard Berger won the race having started 4th on the grid. Nigel Mansell and Ayrton Senna started on the front row of the grid but both retired after they collided with each other. This was the last F1 race for the March team.

1991

Race winner: Ayrton Senna McLaren
Ayrton Senna won having taken his 60th pole position. The race was run in torrential rain and the race was stopped after 16 laps meaning half points were awarded. This was the final F1 race for Nelson Piquet.

1990

Race winner: Nelson Piquet Benetton
Nelson Pique won the race ahead of the two Ferrari's of Nigel Mansel and Alain Prost. Ayrton Senna took pole position but retired with a mechanical failure.

1989

Race winner: Thierry Boutsen Williams
Thiery Boutsen won having started 5th on the Grid. THe race was run in heavy raincausing controversy as to whether the race was safe to run. An early red flag delayed the race which finished after 70 laps as the 2 hour time limit had been reached.

1988

Race winner: Alain Prost McLaren
The McLaren's dominated the race with Ayrton Senna taking pole position but finishing second and Alain Prost winning from second on the grid. Nelson Piquet was 3rd in what wsa Lotus's final podium finish.

1987

Race winner: Gerhard Berger Ferrari
Gerhard Berger won from pole position and led every lap. Ayrton Senna crossed the line second but was desqualified for illegal brake ducts giving second place to Michele Alboreto.

1986

Race winner: Alain Prost McLaren
Alain Prost won the race from 4th on the grid and this gave him his second driver's championship. Nelson Piquet finished second. NIgel Mansell started on pole position but retired after a tyre failure. This was the final F1 race for Alan Jones and Keke Rosberg.

1985

Race winner: Keke Rosberg Williams
This was the 50th Australian Grand Prix but the first in the World Championship. The race was won by Keke Rosberg and was his final F1 race win. The race had a high rate of attrition with only 8 cars completing the race.
