Mike Hawthorn career
Mike Hawthorn was a British Grand Prix driver who won the 1958 drivers championship and had also won the Le Mans 24 Hour race in 1955. Having decided to retire from motor racing, he was killed in a car accident in 1959. He was involved in the worst accident in motor racing at the 1955 Le Mans 24 hours where a crash near the pit entry led to a car flying into the grandstand killing 83 spectators. Although involved in the accident he was cleared of being at fault.
