The 1968 was notable for several changes in Formula 1 and also for the death of Jim Clark in a Formula 2 race. This year saw the first introduction of aerodynamic wings and the Cosworth DFV was available as a customer engine and would become the major engine for the next 15 years. This year also saw the introduction of sponsorship on cars particularly on the Gold Leaf sponsored Lotus cars. The Lotus 49 was more relaiable this season giving Graham Hill the Drivers Championship and Lotus the Constructors Championship. McLaren won their first race when Bruce McLaren won at Spa and finished second in the Constructors Championship. Jackie Stewart was driving for Ken Tyrrell running a Matra MS10 and took second in the Drivers Championship. Honda withrew from Formula 1 at the end of this season.
