For the second season in a row Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna domminated the 1989 season, with this time Alain Prost taking his third Drivers championship title and McLaren again dominating the Constructors championship. The increasing animosity between Alain Prost and Senna led to a crash during the Japanese GP causing Alain Prost to retire and Senna being disqualified which effectively sealed the championship in Alain Prost's favour. This was Zakspeed's final season in F1.
