The 1977 season saw Niki Lauda win his second drivers championship and take Ferrari to their third constructors championship in a row. This year also saw the introduction of Colin Chapman's Lotus 78, the first ground effect car. Meanwhile Tyrrell struggled with their 6 wheel car and at the end of the season went back to 4 wheels.
