Autodromo Hernanos Rodrigues Mexico circuit details

This circuit hosted the Mexican GP from 1962 to 1970 and from 1986 to 1992 and it returned to the calendar for the 2015 season, The track has undergone some major work to bring it up to current safety standards but it promises to provide good racing and a passionate crowd.

Max Verstappen won from third on the grid ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Charles Leclerc took pole position but finished third.

2022

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull
Max Verstappen won from pole position ahead of Lewis Hamilton who questioned the teams tyre choice. The second Red Bull of Sergio Perez was third.

2021

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull
Valtteri Bottas took pole position, but was passed by Max Verstappen in the first few corners and Bottas was spun from behind and ended up at the back of the grid. Max Verstappen went on to win comfortably. Lewis Hamilton finished second ahead of the second Red Bull of Sergio Perez.

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton won from Sebastian Vettel in a Ferrari and Valtteri Bottas in the other Mercedes.

2018

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull
Max Verstappen won the race from Sebastian Vettel but it was Lewis Hamilton who was celebrating his 5th world championship. The race reflected much of the year with Lewis Hamilton getting everything out of a car that was not the quickest, whilst Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari made mistakes with what was often a faster car.

2017

Race winner:Max Verstappen Red Bull
Max Verstappen won the race ahead of the Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas and the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen. Lewis Hamilton had damage to his car after a collision and finished 9th, but this was sufficient to win his 4th drivers championship.

Lewis Hamilton won from team mate Nico Rosberg and the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo.

2015

Nico Rosberg won from pole position ahead of his team mate Lewis Hamilton and the Williams of Valtteri Bottas.

1992

Race winner: Nigel Mansell Williams
Nigel Mansell won from pole position from teammate Riccardo Patrese. Michael Schumacher was third in his first podium finish. This was the final race on an increasing bumpy track until the race was revived in 2015.

1991

Race winner: Riccardo Patrese Williams
Riccardo patrese won from teammate Nigel Mansell ahead of the McLaren of Ayrton Senna and the only 3 cars on the lead lap. Unusually Andrea de Cesaris finished 4th after pushing his car across the finishing line.

1990

Race winner: Alain Prost Ferrari
Alain Prost won having started 13th on the grid with teammate Nigel Mansell just finishing ahead of Gerhard Berger. Ayrton Senna retired after a tyre failure trying to avoid a pit stop for tyres.

1989

Race winner: Ayrton Senna McLaren
Ayrton Senna won from pole position ahead of Riccardo Patresse in a Williams. Alain Prost finished 5th after mistakes with his tyre choices.

1988

Race winner: Alain Prost McLaren
Alain Prost won from teammate Ayrton Senna who had started on pole position. Due to the high altitude the turbo powered cars dominated the normally aspirated cars.

1987

Race winner: Nigel Mansell Williams
Nigel Mansell won from team mate Nelson Piquet in a race that was averaged over two halves when it was red flagged after Derek Warwick had a crash.

1986

Race winner: Gerhard Berger Benetton
F1 returned to Mexico after a 16 year break with still a bumpy track and the fast Peraldata curve remaining. Gerhard Berger won his and Benetton's first race thanks to not having to make a pit stop with his Pirelli tyres.
