Autódromo José Carlos Pace, São Paulo, Brazil circuit details

Interlagos has been home of most of the Brazilian GP's with only a few races run in Rio. The track is bumpy and taxing for the driver, though it was resurfaced for 2007 to make it smoother.

2024 Race

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull
In a wet race Max Verstappen won having started 17th on the grid. His title rival Lando Norris started on pole but finished 4th. Due to poor weather qualifying was held on the Sunday (with 5 red flags) and the race brought forward to try and avoid the worst of the weather

2024 Sprint

Race winner: Lando Norris McLaren
Oscar Piastri took pole position and led most of the race from team mate Lando Norris. The team asked them to swap places to give Lando Norris the win and help his fight for the drivers championship.

2023 Race

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull
Max Verstappen won from pole position. A first lap accident led to a red flag and a race restart. Lando Norris in a McLaren finished second having started 6th ahead of Fernando Alonso who was 3rd in the Aston Martin.

2023 Sprint

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull
Max Verstappen won having started second on the grid, overtaking Lando Norris in a McLaren on the first lap. Sergio Perez in the other Red Bull was 3rd.

2022

Race winner: George Russell
Kevin Magnussen took his and Haas's first pole position in the sprint race after a wet/dry qualifying, with George Russell winning the Sprint race. George Russell won his first race in an exciting race that had two safety cars and a coming together between Hamilton and Verstappen. Lewis Hamilton recovered to finish second ahead of the two Ferrari's.

2021

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton was disqualified from qualifying for a technical infringement so started at the back of the sprint race but finished 5th. After a grid penalty for a new engine he started the race 10th. Valtteri Bottas started on pole ahead of Max Verstappen. Max Verstappen took the lead early and pulled out a lead. Lewis Hamilton closed up under safety cars and then passed him for an impressive win given the penalties imposed on him.

2019

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull
Max Verstappen won from pole position ahead of Pierre Gasly in a Torro Rosso and Carlos Sainz Jr in a McLaren.

2018

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton took a lucky win from pole position. Max Verstappen was on for a victory until Esteban Ocon tried to unlap himself and caused Verstappen to spin. The damage to Verstappen car was limited but he was unable to catch Hamilton for the lead.

2017

Race winner: Sebastian Vettel Ferrari
Sebastian Vettel won the race from Valtteri Bottas who had started on pole position. Kimi Raikkonen was third in the other Ferrari ahead of Lewis Hamilton who had started from the pit lane after he crashed during qualifying.

2016

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
The race was wet and started behind the safety car. Lewis Hamilton won from pole position from his team mate Nico Rosberg. Max Verstappen was third after Kimi Raikkonen crashes out due to the wet track.

2015

Race winner: Nico Rosberg Mercedes
Nico Rosberg won from pole position in 2015 from Lewis Hamilton for the second year running, finishing ahead of the two Ferrari's of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen. Max Verstappen had another good race with several good overtaking manoeuvres.

2014

Race winner: Nico Rosberg Mercedes
Nico Rosberg won from pole position in 2014 from team mate Lewis Hamilton after a mistake by Lewis Hamilton. Felipe Massa was third for Williams at his home GP and Jenson Button was 4th continuing McLaren's better second half of the season.

2013

Race winner: Sebastian Vettel Red Bull
Sebastian Vettel won in 2013 to give him a record breaking 9 consecutive wins and 13 wins in a season. Mark Webber was second in his final race in Formula 1. Jenson Button was fourth to give McLaren their best result of the season.

2012

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton McLaren
In 2012 Jenson Button won an exciting race with a good drive in changing weather conditions. Fernando Alonso came second, but Sebastian Vettle's sixth place was enough to give him the world championship for the third time.

2011

Race winner: Mark Webber Red Bull
Mark Webber won the 2011 race after Sebastian Vettel had gear box problems. Jenson Button was third after Lewis Hamilton retired with gearbox problems

2010

Race winner: Sebastian Vettel Red Bull
Sebastian Vettel won the 2010 race from team mate Mark Webber to give Red Bull their first constructors championship, however it still left the drivers championship to go to the final race of the season as Fernando Alonso finished third.

2009

Race winner: Mark Webber Red Bull
The 2009 qualifying was disrupted by rain, putting two of the championship contenders near the back of the grid. After first lap incidents that brought out the safety car, Mark Webber won the race. The fifth place for Jenson Button was enough for him to secure the drivers title and for Brawn to take the constructors championship.

2008

Race winner: Felipe Massa Ferrari
Felipe Massa won the race after taking pole position with Fernando Alonso second in a Renault an Kimi Raikkonen third in the other Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton passed Timo Glock on the final to give him fifth position and the drivers championship. This was David Coultard's final race.

2007

Race winner: Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari
Kimi Raikkonen won the race from Felipe Massa who had started from pole position with Fernando Alonso third. Lewis Hamilton had a problem with his gearbox early in the race which dropped him to the back of the pack and although he fought his way back to 7th it was not enough and Kimi Raikkonen won the drivers championship by 1 point from Lewis Hamilton.

2006

Race winner: Felipe Massa Ferrari
Felipe Massa won the race from Fernando Alonso in a Renault and Jenson Button in a Honda. In this the last race of the season the result was enough to give Fernando Alonso the drivers championship and Renault the constructors championship.

2005

Race winner: Juan Pablo Montoya McLaren
Juan Pablo Montoya won the race from team mate Kimi Raikkonen with Fernando Alonso third in a Renault. The result was enough to Fernando Alonso his first drivers world championship.

2004

Race winner: Juan Pablo Montoya Williams
Juan Pablo Montoya won the race after being pushed hard by Kimi Raikkonen in the McLaren. Local favourite Rubens Barrichello started from pole position but finished third. This was the final race for the Jaguar team with both drivers retiring after colliding with each other.

2003

Race winner: Giancarlo Fisichella Jordan
The race was run in very wet condition leading to numerous accidents and 5 safety car periods. The 71 lap race was red flagged and stopped on lap 56 after crashes left cars and debris across the main straight. This led to some confusion over the result with Giancarlo Fisichella being given his first Grand Prix victory ahead of Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso. Only 9 cars were still running when the race was stopped. The was Jordan's 200th race and their 4th and final race win.

2002

Race winner: Michael Schumacher Ferrari
Michael Schumacher won from Ralph Schumacher in the Williams and David Coultard in the McLaren.

2001

Race winner: David Coultard McLaren
David Coultard won the race having started fifth on the grid ahead of Michael Schumacher who had started from pole position. Nick Heidfeld was third in the Sauber having started from 9th on the grid. The race started dry and but heavy rain part way through changed the race.

2000

Race winner: Michael Schumacher Ferrari
Mika Hakkinen took pole position abut retired with mechanical problems. Michael Schumacher won the race from Ginacarlo Fisichella in a Benetton and Heinz-Harald Frentzen in a Jordan. David Coultard finished second on the road but was disqualified due to an illegal front wing.

1999

Race winner: Mika Hakkinen McLaren
Mika Hakkinen won from pole position ahead of the Ferrari of Michael Schumacher. Heinz-Harald Frentzen finished third in his Jordan despite running out of fuel on the last lap as he was a lap ahead of Ralf Schumacher in 4th.

1998

Race winner: Mika Hakkinen McLaren
Mika Hakkinen won from pole position, led every lap and took the fastest lap. David Coultard was second in the other McLaren ahead of Michael Schumacher in a Ferrari.

1997

Race winner: Jacques Villeneuve Williams
A first lap accident caused a red flag and the race restarted. Jacques Villeneuve won from pole position ahead of Gerhard Berger in a Benetton .

1996

Race winner: Damon Hill Williams
In a wet race Damon Hill won from pole position. This was his 15th F1 GP win passing the 14 wins of his father Graham Hill. Jean Alesi was second in the Benetton. ahead of the Ferrari of Michael Schumacher.

1995

Race winner: Michael Schumacher Benetton
Damon Hill took pole position in a Williams but spun out of the race leaving Michael Schumacher to win the race from second on the grid ahead of David Coultard in the other Williams.

1994

Race winner: Michael Schumacher Benetton
Local driver Ayrton Senna took pole position but spun out of the race. Michael Schumacher won the race from second on the grid ahead of the Williams of Damon Hill.

1993

Race winner: Ayrton Senna McLaren
Local driver Ayrton Senna won from third on the grid. Damon Hill was second in the Williams ahead of Michael Schumacher in a Benetton. This was McLaren's 100th F1 race win.

1992

Race winner: Nigel Mansell Williams
Nigel Mansell won from pole position ahead of team mate ahead Riccardo Patresse. The Williams were dominant in the race finishing a lap ahead of Michael Schumacher in third place.

1991

Race winner: Ayrton Senna McLaren
Ayrton Senna won from pole position. This was the first time he won his home GP. Riccardo Patresse was second in a Williams ahead of the other McLaren of Gerhard Berger.

1990

This was the first F1 GP on the remodelled Interlagos track. Alain Prost won from 6th on the grid ahead of Gerhard Berger in a McLaren. Ayrton Senna in the other McLaren finished 3rd having started on pole position.
