The most famous of all the GP tracks with its history and glamour. Love it or hate it, it is an institution in motor racing. The narrow and tight street circuit makes over taking difficult and therefore qualifying is more important here than anywhere else. The Lowes hairpin is the slowest corner in F1 and the tunnel and swimming pool sections are classic parts of F1 racing.

In 2009 Jenson Button continued his excellent start to the season, winning the race from pole postion. This gave him his third win in succession and his fifth in six races. Barichello coninued his good start to the season with his third second place of the season. Ferrari made significant improvements over their performance in previous races with Raikkonen getting their first podium of the season.

The 2008 race was wet, and despite Hamilton making cobtact with a barrier early in the race he went on to win that unusally finished at 2 hours rather than full race distance.
