Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, Italy circuit details

Monza has hosted every one but one of the Italian GP's since 1950. It is one of the great circuits and one of the fastest with some famous corners. Over the years the track has undergone a number of modifications to try and reduce speeds and make the track safer. It has seen some famous and infamous races. This is the home of the "Tifosi", the most fanatical fans of Ferrari. This circuit has the fastest average speed of any current track with full throttle for 83% of the lap making it hard on engines.

2024

Race winner: Charles Leclerc Ferrari
McLaren started first and second with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri with Oscar Piastri taking the lead on the first lap. Charles Leclerc by going with a one stop strategy rather than the two stops of the other teams. Franco Colapinto replaced Logan Sargeant at Williams for the rest of the season.

2023

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull
Max Verstappen won a record tenth consecutive race when he won this race after starting second on the grid.

2022

Race winner: Max Verstappen Red Bull
The starting grid was mixed up after 10 drivers took penalties, but Max Verstappen won after starting 6th on the grid. The race finished under the safety car. Nyck de Vries finished 9th for Williams in his first F1 race as he replaced Alexander Albon at late notice.

2021

Race winner: Daniel Ricciardo McLaren
Max Verstappen took pole position but Daniel Ricciardo won the race after Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton both retired after they had a coming together whilst exciting the pits. Lando Norris was second in the other McLaren

2020

Race winner: Pierre Gasly Alpha Tauri
Pierre Gasly won his first Grand Prix in a turbulent and exciting race. The race turned on two incidents. The Haas Kevin Magnussen stopped near the pit entrance, Lewis Hamilton pitted despite the pit lane being closed for safety reasons giving him a 10 second stop/go penalty which turned what should have been an easy win into 7th place and Charles Leclerc crashed bring out a red flag but which left Pierre Gasly to win from Carlos Sainz in a McLaren.

2019

Race winner: Charles Leclerc Ferrari
Charles Leclerc won from pole position despite being pushed hard by both Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton who finished 2nd and 3rd for Mercedes. Sebastian Vettel ended up 13th following a penalty for causing a collision with Lance Stroll.

2018

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton won after Sebastian Vettel spun on the first lap after trying to pass Hamilton. Vettel eventually recovered to finish fourth. Kimi Raikkonen led for much of the race, but was overtaken by Hamilton with just a few laps to go.

2017

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton took pole position, but the grid behind him was mixed up as 8 drivers had grid penalties for gearbox changes or using too many power units. Mercedes finished the race 1st and 2nd with Lewis Hamilton ahead of Valtteri Bottas, with the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel 3rd.

2016

Race winner: Nico Rosberg Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton started on pole but a poor start dropped him down the order, but he recovered to finish second behind teammate Nico Rosberg who took a comfortable win. Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen started and finished 3rd and and 4th.

2015

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton won in 2015 from pole position after Nico Rosberg had a poor qualifying with the Ferrari's starting second and third on the grid. Kimi Raikkonen had a problem at the start going from second on the grid to last by the first corner, but recovered to finish fifth. Nico Rosberg used an old engine that was underpowered compared with Hamilton, but was running third until he had engine failure with only a couple a laps to go, which meant Massa and Bottas finished third and fourth for Williams.

2014

Race winner: Lewis Hamilton Mercedes
In 2014 Lewis Hamilton took pole position ahead of Nico Rosberg and the two Williams cars. Nico Rosberg took the lead after a poor start from Lewis Hamilton, but a mistake by Rosberg gave Hamilton the win, with Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas finishing 3rd and 4th for Williams. There was plenty of wheel to wheel racing in the mid field particularly from Daniel Ricciardo and Valtteri Bottas. With the retirement of Fernando Alonso from the race, Williams overtook Ferrari in the constructors championship.

2013

Race winner: Sebastian Vettel Red Bull
Sebastian Vettel won the 2013 race from pole position a head of Fernando Alonso, with Mark Webber getting his first podium finish of the season despite having some damage to his front wing. Nico Hulkenberg dove his Sauber to an impressive fifth place, their best result of the season. Lewis Hamilton had a slow puncture early in the race and the extra pit stop put him down the field, but some impressive speed and overtaking took him to ninth place.

Lewis Hamilton won from pole position in 2012 from Sergio Perez in a Sauber, after championship contenders Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber and Jenson Button all retired with mechanical problems.

2011

Race winner: Sebastian Vettel Red Bull
In 2011 Sebastian Vettel won his second Grand Prix at Monza after an early pass of Fernando Alonso. Jenson Button came second after Mark Webber retired after an accident and Lewis Hamilton was held up by Michael Schumacher who for the about the first time this season showed his old race craft.

2010

Fernando Alonso won the 2010 race to give his title hopes a boost after he passed Jenson Button at the pit stop. Lewis Hamilton crashed out on lap 1.

2009

Race winner: Reubens Barrichello Brawn
The 2009 race saw a return to form for Brawn with Reubens Barrichello and Jenson Button scoring a one two. Lewis Hamilton was secure in third until crashing out on the final lap.

2008

Race winner: Sebastian Vettel Torro Rosso
In 2008 in a rain affected qualifying and race, Sebastian Vettel won from pole position to become the youngest driver to win an F1 Grand Prix.

2007

Race winner: Fernando Alonso McLaren
Fernando Alonso won from pole position staying ahead of team mate Lewis Hamilton. Kimi Raikkonen was third in a Ferrari.

2006

Race winner: Michael Schumacher Ferrari
Michael Schumacher won ahead of the pole sitter Kimi Raikkonen in a McLaren. Robert Kubica was third, his first podium finish in only his third start.

2005

Race winner: Juan Pablo Montoya McLaren
Juan Pablo Montoya won from pole position and lead every lap, finishing ahead of the Renault's of Fernando Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella.

Rubens Barrichello won from fourth place ahead of his Ferrari team mate Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvin's in the Jaguar.

Juan Pablo Montoya won the race having taken pole position. Rubens Barrichello was second in a Ferrari and Ralph Schumacher in the other Williams.

Michael Schumacher won the race having taken pole position ahead of Mika Hakkinen in a McLaren and Ralph Schumacher in a Williams. An accident on the first lap led to the death of a fire marshal and subsequently changes were made to safety measures for the cars and tracks with questions being raised about the safety of chicanes.

This race is remembered for the death of Ronnie Peterson in a first lap accident. The race was eventually won nu Niki Lauda ahead of the other Brabham of John Watson. Mario Andretti and Gilles Villeneuve crossed the finishing line first and second but were given 1 minute penalties for a jump start.

Mario Andretti won from the Ferrari of Niki Lauda. James Hunt started on pole in the McLaren but failed to finish the race.

Ronnie Peterson won for March is what was their last F1 race victory. Clay Reggazzoni was second in a Ferrari and Jacques Laffite third in a Ligier after starting on pole.

1975

Race winner: Clay Regazzoni Ferrari
Clay Regazzoni won from Emerson Fittipaldi in a McLaren and the Ferrari of Niki Lauda. The result was enough to give Niki Lauda his first drivers championship and Ferrari the constructors championship for the first time since 1961.

Ronnie Peterson won from Emerson Fittipaldi. Despite a puncture Jackie Stewart finished 4th giving him his third and last drivers championship.

Emerson Fittipaldi won ahead of the Surtees of Mike Hailwood. The win gave Emerson Fittipaldi the drivers championship and at the time he was the youngest driver to win the championship. This was John Surtees final F1 race.

1971

Peter Gethin won his only F1 race from Ronnie Peterson in the closest F1 race finish with the cars separated by only 0.01 seconds. The race held the record for the fast average speed (150.754 mph) for over 30 years. The Monza track was modified after this race with added chicanes to slow down the cars.

This was Clay Regazzoni's first F1 race victory finishing ahead of Jackie Stewart in a March. Sadly Jochen Rindt was killed during practice for this race but he did become the only posthumous world champion.
